Your photo session does not have to happen in a studio to feel professional, beautiful, or meaningful.
Some of the best portraits happen in places that already feel connected to your real life — a park you love, a quiet beach, your office, your home, a downtown street, or even a simple little corner most people would walk right past.
As an on-location photographer serving Orange County and Los Angeles County, I help you choose a place that fits your comfort level, your personality, and the kind of photos you want to create.
You do not have to know the perfect location before reaching out. That is something we can figure out together.
The goal is simple: to create images that feel natural, personal, and true to you.
Parks, Gardens & Open Spaces
Natural settings are a beautiful choice if you want your portraits to feel relaxed, soft, and timeless.
Parks, gardens, walking paths, trees, shaded areas, and open spaces can help you feel less boxed in and more at ease. These locations work especially well for family portraits, lifestyle sessions, personal branding, senior-style portraits, and anyone who wants a calm, natural background.
If you are nervous in front of the camera, outdoor locations can also help take some of the pressure off. We can walk, pause, adjust, and let the session unfold naturally instead of forcing every pose.
Urban & Downtown Areas
If you want something more modern, bold, professional, or creative, an urban location may be the right fit.
Brick walls, storefronts, business districts, murals, stairways, sidewalks, and downtown areas can add texture and personality to your images. These locations are especially helpful for headshots, branding portraits, actor images, creative portraits, and small business owners who want photos that feel polished but not stiff.
Urban sessions can say a lot about confidence, creativity, independence, and personality.
They are also a great option if you want images that feel current, useful for social media, and strong enough for websites, profiles, marketing, or business promotion.
Beaches & Waterfronts
Southern California gives us beautiful beach and waterfront options, and they can create a softer, more open feeling in your photos.
The sky, sand, water, and natural light can bring a peaceful, romantic, or reflective quality to your images. Beaches can work well for lifestyle portraits, family sessions, couples, personal portraits, and anyone who wants something airy and natural.
That said, beach sessions do require a little planning. We will think about parking, crowds, wind, lighting, walking distance, and the best time of day so the session feels as smooth as possible.
A beach session should feel peaceful — not stressful.
Homes, Offices & Personal Spaces
Sometimes the best location is the place where you already feel most like yourself.
Your home, office, backyard, porch, workspace, or favorite local spot can make your session feel more personal and comfortable. These locations are especially helpful for branding portraits, lifestyle sessions, family images, boudoir or pin-up inspired sessions, and anyone who feels more relaxed in a familiar environment.
For business owners, your workspace can help tell the story of what you do.
For families, your home can hold memories that no public location can recreate.
For personal portraits, a familiar place can help you relax and feel safer in front of the camera.
A meaningful location does not have to be fancy. It just has to support the story we are telling.
Unexpected Locations Can Become Beautiful
One of my favorite true stories is from a boudoir session I photographed years ago.
My client wanted to do the session behind her office.
Behind the office was not a garden, a studio, or a picture-perfect location.
It was a drainage ditch.
Yes — a drainage ditch.
But she saw something there, and honestly, I loved her imagination. With careful angles, good posing, the right light, and a little Photoshop magic afterward, the finished images looked almost like a fairy tale setting.
That session still makes me smile because it proves something I believe deeply:
Beautiful photos are not always about having the most expensive or obvious location.
Sometimes they are about trust, comfort, creativity, and knowing how to see beauty where other people might overlook it.
Of course, safety, privacy, and permission always matter. But your session location does not have to be perfect to become something meaningful.
Not Sure Where to Go? That Is Okay.
A lot of people wait to book because they think they need everything figured out first.
They think they need the perfect outfit, the perfect location, the perfect confidence, or the perfect reason.
You do not.
That is part of what I help with.
During your consultation, we can talk through what kind of photos you need, how you want them to feel, what locations are realistic, and what would help you feel comfortable. Whether your session is for headshots, portraits, family photos, boudoir, branding, or personal memories, we can choose a setting that supports you.
You do not have to arrive knowing how to pose.
You do not have to know your “best side.”
You do not have to feel perfectly confident.
You just have to start the conversation.
Let’s Choose a Location That Feels Right for You
Your session should feel like more than just standing somewhere and smiling for the camera.
It should feel personal.
It should feel respectful.
It should feel comfortable enough for you to breathe and be yourself.
Whether we photograph at a park, beach, downtown area, office, home, or somewhere completely unexpected, I will help guide you through the process from planning to posing.
If you have been thinking about updating your headshots, booking portraits, planning a family session, creating branding images, or finally doing a session just for yourself, this is a good place to begin.
Reach out today and let’s talk about what kind of location would feel right for your session.
Choosing a setting that reflects your story
The most successful sessions often come from locations that feel familiar, meaningful, or simply comfortable. A place does not need to be dramatic to be effective. Sometimes a quiet corner, a favorite neighborhood, or a simple outdoor setting creates the most authentic results.
At Dansby Photography, Sherry works with clients in Westminster, California, Los Angeles, and Orange County to create on-location portraits that feel welcoming and respectful from start to finish. With gentle direction and a calm approach, the focus stays on helping you feel at ease so your expressions look natural and true.
