Your Story, Seen with Care

About Me – Sherry Dansby
About Me – Sherry Dansby
Hi, I’m Sherry Dansby — a trans woman, ethical photographer, visual storyteller, and someone who has lived with epilepsy since childhood.
Photography has always been more than just a profession for me — it’s how I help people feel truly seen.
Whether you’re posing for a headshot, marking a family milestone, stepping into your power in a boudoir session, or lighting up a red carpet, my goal is the same: to help you feel confident, celebrated, and remembered.
I proudly serve clients throughout Orange and Los Angeles Counties from my home base in Westminster, California — where I was born and raised. I also spent six formative years in Washington, Illinois, and come from a family with deep Midwestern roots.
With over 15 years behind the lens and a lifetime of perspective in front of it, I bring lived experience, care, and creativity to every session. Living with epilepsy has shaped how I see the world. It’s taught me empathy, patience, and resilience — qualities I bring to every interaction. I understand what it feels like to navigate challenges while still wanting to show up, feel beautiful, and be valued.
As a transgender woman and small business owner, my work is deeply personal — and entirely community-driven. I don’t shoot in a studio. I bring the session to you — your home, your neighborhood, your backdrop. I believe in putting people before profit, creating space for authenticity, and honoring every story I’m invited to capture.
More than a photographer, I’m your collaborator, your advocate, and sometimes your biggest cheerleader behind the lens.
What I Bring to Every Session

Current Work & Our History
Dansby Photography carries a legacy nearly seven decades in the making.
It all began in 1955, when my family founded Pride Portrait Co. — a small high school portrait company built on integrity, service, and community. By the 1960s and '70s, we had expanded into school reunions and event planning, becoming a trusted name throughout California.
In 2009, our family suffered a deep loss when the founder’s wife — my aunt — passed away. That year marked a turning point. In 2010, I stepped forward to continue what they had built, merging Pride Portrait with Backup Productions, our media transfer branch. Together, we became Dansby Photography.
In 2012, I was honored for the first time as Photographer of the Year by the City of Westminster — an award I’ve now held 13 times.
But in 2017, life changed again. My father — the man who inspired my passion and purpose — passed away. His loss broke something in me that only time, reflection, and community could help mend. I stepped back, I grieved, and I grew.
By 2020, I returned — with more clarity, purpose, and heart than ever. Dansby Photography became not just a business, but a vessel for healing and human connection. I opened my lens to nonprofit work, personal milestones, and portraits that empower people to see their own beauty.
Then in 2022, I received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joe Biden — not just for my photography, but for the heart and advocacy woven into everything I do.
This is the story behind the shutter. This is what you’re joining when you trust me to tell your story.
