Framed But Forgotten: Part 3 – Redemption on the Red Carpet

Can the Industry Change? The Answer Might Surprise You.

Change is possible. See how independent photographers are challenging the red carpet system and building a more ethical future for the industry.

Framed But Forgotten: Part 3 – Redemption on the Red Carpet

Despite all the barriers, hope remains. The red carpet doesn’t have to stay a playground for the privileged — and change is already starting in small, powerful ways.

Some independent organizations and events are creating fairer credentialing processes. New collectives of freelance photographers are pushing for ethical access standards, offering mutual support, and challenging pay-to-play practices. A few celebrities themselves are beginning to prioritize hiring independent photographers from diverse backgrounds, using their influence to create space for new talent.

As a community, we can also:

  • Demand transparency about credentialing and access policies.
  • Support ethical events that prioritize inclusivity over profit.
  • Amplify voices of photographers who have historically been shut out.
  • Share resources that help emerging photographers understand their rights and opportunities.

The red carpet might glitter, but it’s the people behind the cameras who make the magic happen. By standing together and advocating for ethical, fair treatment, we can reframe the industry into something that reflects the true diversity, creativity, and heart of the photography world.

Because every photographer deserves a shot — not just the ones already inside the velvet rope.
